Where do industry insiders head to find unique homeware, apparat, gifts and favourite destinations? Who better than designer, stylist, and Mother Lisa Baker, to open her little black book of decades of inside knowledge?
If I could only shop on one street, I would choose Westbourne Grove in West London. It's extremely calm and inspiring, especially the Paul Smith Westbourne House. It always feels like a small village with the best stores and restaurants in the world. When I lived in London, I spent almost every day exploring the stores and antique markets, it never get’s boring.
The most special shop in the world used to be Colette in Paris, but for me it must be the original Dover Street Market, which first opened in London, Mayfair in September 2004. Everything you bought there was – and still is – special and different.
One of the best purchases I've made is a pair of Alexander McQueen studded ankle boots. The other item must be my collection of original 18th-century Japanese framed paintings, which I discovered at a second-hand shop in West London. They are so beautiful and unique that I have had them for almost 20 years and will never let go of them.
Okay, in no particular sequence, I'm going to open up my little black book. From the past to the present day. Presenting my insider knowledge? I hope you enjoy it and, more importantly, find it useful for your family. welcome to my world.
